More than 660 Mexican couples tie the knot on Valentine’s Day

More than 660 couples tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in a grand collective ceremony in a Mexico City neighborhood. The ceremony has been organized every year since 2013 by the Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl district, in the east of the Mexican capital. Couples who want to make the commitment can take advantage of a number of benefits, such as a free marriage certificate.

According to María Darinka Rendón, secretary of the town hall of the district of Rendón, this type of collective wedding is “an emotional event for the participants, for the families and also for us who are here to witness”.

The oldest couple to say yes was Francisco Calvo, a 74-year-old merchant, and Rosalba Silva (67), two widowers who met five years ago and decided to get married last year. “I thought there would be no more opportunities for me, but love has come because it just happens,” said Rosalba, all smiles next to her new husband.
