Afghan soldier killed in a gunfight at Kabul airport

Afghan security forces have been killed in clashes between Afghan security forces and German and US soldiers with unknown assailants at the northern entrance to Kabul airport. Three others were injured, the German army said on Twitter.

“This morning at 4.13 am Central European Summer Time, a firefight broke out at the northern gate of Kabul airport between Afghan security forces and unknown assailants,” the German army said.

“An Afghan law enforcement officer was killed, and three others were injured. American and German troops were also involved in the further course of the battle.”

According to the Bundeswehr, no German soldiers were injured. The German army is not reporting anything about the fate of the American troops.

Evacuation flights from the country depart from the airport. Western countries are trying to get their citizens and Afghans out of the country after the Islamic Taliban took power. The German embassy had previously warned that it is becoming increasingly dangerous at the airport’s entrances, with armed clashes.
