If the airbag goes off when you, as a co-driver, rest your feet on the dashboard, the consequences can be terrible. This x-ray shows the shattered hips of a young woman. With the frightening photo, the Wales police are trying to prevent people from putting their feet on the dashboard of a car.
A British woman recently suffered horrific injuries in a devastating car accident – all because she had left her feet on the dashboard. One of her hips is completely crushed, the other is completely dislocated under her thigh. The radiograph was shared by Sergeant Ian Price of Dyfed-Powys Police in Wales. According to the agent, the victim will never be able to walk normally again.
That is not how it should be. An airbag can explode even with a minor collision, with potentially terrible consequences.
Although it is not formally forbidden to place your feet on the dashboard, the consequences can be terrible and not just because your legs and hips can break. Last year, Grainne Kealy (35) was horribly wounded when her knees hit 120 km/h in her face after her friend’s Jeep hit a wall. This triggered the airbag under her feet. She had to do it for two years without a forehead after doctors were forced to remove it.
She also suffered multiple facial fractures and underwent leaky brain fluid. After the crash, she said: “There was nothing left of my forehead. My skin sank and I looked a bit strange. At that time, it seemed helpful to put my feet on the dashboard. But when the car crashed, my knees were rammed against my forehead.”
An American woman got her knee in the face in a similar incident. Her entire forehead had to be removed.
