“Do you regret at all the lying?” With that question, a reporter from the American news site HuffPost spoke to President Donald Trump during a briefing at the White House. Images of the incident are spreading like wildfire on social media.
“I’ve wanted to ask him that for five years,” replied the experienced White House correspondent SV Dáte after his intervention on Twitter. The images were taken on Thursday. They have since been shared by many other journalists and news media and have been viewed millions of times.
“Do you regret at all the lying you’ve done to the American people?” You can hear the reporter ask. To which Trump replies, “Of everything?”
“All the lying and all dishonesty”, the journalist replies. To which Trump asks, “Who told who?” To which the reporter replies: “You.”
Trump is visibly not sure what to say and decides to ignore the reporter and let someone else ask a question.
Last month, The Washington Post reported that Trump had already made more than 20,000 misleading or downright false statements during his presidency.
Nearly 1,000 of these concerned the corona pandemic. The newspaper kept a meticulous record of this in an exclusive database.
