Off the coast of Nigeria eleven people, including eight Poles, were kidnapped after an attack by a group of men on a ship. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported this today.
It concerns the ship Pomerenia Sky from a German shipping company, which sails under the flag of Liberia and was on its way to Nigeria. Around 4 o’clock the ship was attacked about 60 kilometres from the coast. The hijackers approached the ship in two speedboats.
Eleven crew members, including eight Poles, two Philippines and one Ukrainian were abducted by the attackers, said Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz. “Our consulate in Hamburg is in contact with the shipping company and our consulate in Abuja is in contact with the local authorities.”
Yesterday, the Swiss court announced that twelve crew members of a Swiss ship were released. They were kidnapped by pirates off Nigeria last month during a hijacking.
