Rachel Levine the first trans woman in the US government

Future US President Joe Biden nominates Rachel Levine as Deputy Minister of Health. He announced this in a press release this afternoon. If confirmed by the Senate, Levine will be the very first trans person in the US government.

In his press release, Biden stressed that Levine is a “historic choice” who is “highly qualified to drive our government’s health policy.” The expert in pediatrics and psychiatry has previously headed the Department of Public Health in the state of Pennsylvania.

Biden added that she has the critical expertise to guide the US population through the corona pandemic “regardless of their zip code, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.”

If confirmed by the Senate, Levine will become the first openly trans person in the US government. Normally that will only be a formality, like the Democrats, this week, in addition to the majority in the House, will also get hold of those in the Senate.

Earlier, the 46th president of the United States announced that Xavier Becerra, the attorney general of California, would become the next Secretary of Health.
