The ruling party wins the legislative elections in Togo

The Togolese electoral commission proclaimed the provisional results of the legislative elections of December 20th.

Subject to confirmation by the Constitutional Court, these provisional results confer the majority of seats in the National Assembly to the party in power, the Union for the Republic, which stands out with 59 elected deputies.

Ten independent lists and six opposition political parties share the remaining 32 seats, led by Gilchrist Olympio’s Union of Change Forces, which has six seats.

Organized in a crisis context and boycotted by the coalition of 14 opposition political parties, the ballot recorded a participation rate of 59.25%.

850 candidates were in the running for this election.
