Trump: Kim says “small apology” for rocket test

US President Donald Trump says North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un apologizes for testing two short-range missiles. According to Trump, that is stated in a letter he received from Kim.

Kim writes’ very kindly, that he wants to meet me and start negotiations as soon as the joint American-South Korean army exercises are over. “It was a long letter”, with much complaining about these “ridiculous and expensive exercises”. There was also a “small apology for testing the short-range missiles”. These tests stop as soon as the exercises are finished.

“In a letter to me sent by Kim Jong Un, he stated, very nicely, that he would like to meet and start negotiations as soon as the joint U.S./South Korea joint exercise are over. It was a long letter, much of it complaining about the ridiculous and expensive exercises. It was also a small apology for testing the short range missiles, and that this testing would stop when the exercises end. I look forward to seeing Kim Jong Un in the not too distant future! A nuclear free North Korea will lead to one of the most successful countries in the world!” Writes Donal Trump.

North Korea fired two rockets in the night from Friday to Saturday. The projectiles covered 400 kilometers and then crashed into the sea between the Korean peninsula and Japan.

North Korea has already conducted tests with short-range missiles more often in recent weeks. They should serve as a ‘warning’ to South Korea and the US, which together hold military exercises in South Korea. According to North Korea, these are intended as a prelude to an invasion towards the north.

The launches are taking place while negotiations between North Korea and the US on the phasing out of North Korea’s nuclear program have stalled.
