5+ top foods that have more vitamin C than oranges

When it comes to vitamin C, oranges come to mind first. However, they are not the best source of ascorbic acid: they are superior to many other fruits and vegetables. Here are a few foods that have a lot more vitamin C than citrus fruits.

Chilli and bell pepper

Chilli peppers contain almost 144 milligrams of vitamin C in 100 grams, while oranges only contain 60 milligrams. Hot peppers also contain vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, capsaicin (the pepper spice), anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, relieving joint pain and reducing appetite.

Bell pepper contains even more vitamin C than hot pepper – 250 milligrams per 100 grams of the product. In addition, it is rich in vitamin A, vitamin B6, and silicon, which stimulate collagen synthesis, improving the condition of the skin, hair, and nails.

Broccoli

This cruciferous vegetable is also a rich source of vitamin C (89 milligrams per 100 grams), B vitamins, potassium, magnesium, silicon, and more. Broccoli has antioxidant properties and is high in fibre, which helps to saturate and help control appetite and weight.

Plus, broccoli can help reduce nicotine cravings. Therefore, if you want to quit smoking, you should add this type of cabbage to your diet.

Cauliflower

Another cruciferous vegetable that is only slightly inferior to broccoli in the number of valuable properties. Cauliflower contains 70 milligrams of vitamin C, B vitamins, potassium, silicon, and iron. Thanks to its fibre, cauliflower also helps control appetite and normalize weight. Still, it also has a damaging property: it is rich in sulphur compounds that can provoke lousy body odour.

Pineapple

This tropical fruit is prized not only for its taste and high vitamin C content but also for bromelain, a digestive enzyme that accelerates the breakdown of protein foods, improves digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties.

As usual, it was not without a slight drawback: it is bromelain that is to blame for the fact that after eating pineapple, there are unpleasant sensations on the lips and tongue.

Kiwi

100 grams of this sour fruit contains two daily values of vitamin C and potassium, magnesium, and vitamin K. Kiwi supports the immune system, invigorates well, improves mood, and prevents dehydration, which is especially important in summer.

Kiwi also helps to improve falling asleep and sleep quality. This is confirmed by a study by scientists from Taipei Medical University (Taiwan).
