7 signs you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur

Have you been itching to start your own company for some time, but you have no idea whether entrepreneurship is something for you? These seven signs indicate that you do have what it takes to become an entrepreneur.

Anyone can start their own business, but these are the traits successful entrepreneurs have in common.

Signs that you are an entrepreneur

Do these qualities sound like you? Then there is a good chance that you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

 You are stress-resistant

An approaching deadline? Don’t things go as planned? That’s no problem for you. You remain calm and do not take your stress out on others. You need this quality if you are an entrepreneur. It helps you make better business decisions.

You realize you can’t know everything

You don’t mind not being the most intelligent person in the room. You know you can’t know everything, and you can always learn more.

That is why you surround yourself with people who complement you, and you are not afraid to ask for help.

 You are curious

Just because you can’t know everything doesn’t stop you from always learning more. You like to experiment, are eager to learn, and always want to keep developing yourself.

You are willing to do annoying chores

If you’re someone who often says ‘it’s not your job’ at work, starting your own business is probably not for you. You will have to run your entire business, especially at the start. You are not only the CEO but also the receptionist, accountant, and ICT professional.

You will have to do chores that you are not a fan of. But do you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur? Then this is all worth it for the greater purpose of running a successful business

.

You are a leader and not a follower

Some people are followers by nature; they thrive best when told what to do. There’s nothing wrong with that: they’re great employees, and the world wouldn’t turn without them.

You can compare it a bit with Santa Claus and his elves. Santa Claus is the visionary (the entrepreneur in this example), but nothing of his vision would come to pass without the elves.

So ask yourself honestly whether you are a follower or a leader. Your job will be to set the course and strategy.

You are not afraid of success

Many people are – unconsciously – not only afraid of failure but also of achieving success. This means that they get more work, work longer days, and are more in the spotlight.

It also creates higher expectations, not only of yourself but also of your customers or clients.

 You haven’t romanticized entrepreneurship

Organize your days, work where you want, be your boss. Entrepreneurship is fun but is often heavily romanticized. There are plenty of entrepreneurs who work longer days than they did as an employee, for less money, and with more stress.

Of course, you are your boss, but you still have to deal with the needs of others, those of your customers, suppliers, clients, or employees. Entrepreneurship is also just hard work, with tasks you don’t like (see sign 4).

If you understand this, you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur.
