Earlier in June, former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo and opposition leader Tidjane Thiam were excluded from the final list of presidential candidates, meaning they will not be able to participate in the 2025 elections. Gbagbo’s ally Charles Blé Goudé and former Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, who was sentenced to life in prison in absentia on charges of plotting against President Ouattara, were also excluded from the list.

Presidential elections in Côte d’Ivoire are scheduled for October 2025. In October 2024, former Trade Minister Jean-Louis Billon announced his intention to run, and in November, former Prime Minister Pascal Affi N’Guessan put forward his candidacy.
