Surprise at World Championship darts: third seedhead eliminated

At the PDC World Championship darts the first big surprise is a fact. The colourful Scotsman Peter Snakebite Wright (PDC-3), the third seedhead free in the first round, was eliminated 3-1 by the 39-year-old Spaniard Toni Alcinas (PDC-55) at the Alexandra Palace in London in the second round). The set positions were 3-2, 3-1, 0-3 and 3-2.

The 48-year-old Wright, in 2014 vice world champion, threw a higher average than his opponent (94.70 against 93.12), but failed to find the doubles. He used only 8 of 31 chances, Alcinas 9 of 21.

Dave Chisnall (PDC-12) also balanced on the edge of the elimination, but saved his skin by clearing a 0-2 deficit against Josh Payne (PDC-53). The 38-year-old Englishman waits in the third round (best of 7) Kim Huybrechts (PDC-21). He will have to pass the winner of the match between the Scot Robert Thornton (PDC-33) and the Swede Daniel Larsson (PDC-159) on Wednesday in the second round. Dimitri Van den Bergh (PDC-35), world champion at the youth, will start his World Cup tomorrow against the American qualifier Chuck Puleo. With a win, in the second round on Friday, there will be a match against Welshman Jonny Clayton (PDC-15).
