These 5 skills that will boost your income
Whether you are looking for a new job, want to grow with your current employer, or simply want a salary increase, it is always good to gain new knowledge and develop yourself. These five skills make you more attractive to employers, giving you a boost in your income.
These skills don’t necessarily require a four-year degree but can be taught yourself through online courses.
Skills for a higher income
See which skill comes in handy for your job. Or decide to make a career switch if something gets you excited.
1. Coding and/or Programming
We probably don’t have to tell you that this skill is increasingly needed in our digital world. But did you know that that’s why there’s a big shortage of people in the tech world? The more demand there is for employees, the more likely you are to have a high salary.
You have jobs where you must have this skill (such as UX Designer), but even if you have to work with these kinds of people, it is advantageous for employers if you know the principles.
Think coding is not for you? Think again. There are many misconceptions about coding. You don’t have to be good with numbers. Code is rather a language. Are you good at languages, and are you creative? Then this might be something for you.
2. Edit audio and video
Instead of reading magazines and articles online, we now watch videos on TikTok and Instagram. Podcasts have also become increasingly popular. Learning to edit audio and video will undoubtedly come in handy in the future.
And the beautiful? Besides the fact that there are many courses about it online, YouTube is also full of free tutorials.
3. Project management
A skill that comes in handy with every (office) job is project management. Keeping more control and overview and knowing how to manage projects is suitable for yourself and your employer. A certification in this is therefore not wrong on your resume.
4. Google Analytics
More and more organizations are data-driven. Therefore, knowing how to deal with this is a big plus for employers and certainly a reason for a boost in your income.
An excellent way to start is with Google Analytics and learn its ins and outs.
5. Digital Marketing
Marketing is also a skill that can boost your income, mainly if you specialize in something within this field.
In this way, you make yourself indispensable in the workplace – after all, people come to you with questions. Specializations you can think of are social media marketing, email marketing, content marketing, and advertising.
Where can you learn these skills?
Nowadays there are a lot of courses on the internet that you can use. You can find (relatively) cheap online courses on websites like Coursera, Udemy, and Skillshare. The first one is especially recommended because you’ll find courses from prestigious universities and leading companies here.
Afterwards, you will receive a certification that you can share on LinkedIn.
Speaking of LinkedIn, this career platform has its video courses called LinkedIn Learning that is also worth taking.
One last tip: are you employed, and do you feel that this new skill helps you develop? Then ask your employer if there is a budget for training. You can often do this at the expense of the boss. We call that a win-win: not paying for the training and then a boost in income through your acquired knowledge.
